Nakkas’ Contemporary Rugs Collection
Nakkas’ Contemporary Rug Collection was developed to respond to the need and desire for hand-made Turkish rugs to complement a more modern look in interior design. The weaving technique, the dyeing process and the materials used in these contemporary rugs are the same as those used in traditional Turkish rugs.
The colors and patterns were determined by working with interior designers both here in İstanbul and Europe, as well as in consultation with our manufacturers. Often the designs take a traditional motif or element of art from a typical Turkish rug, and use that figure as the base from which the new contemporary rug’s creative individuality springs.
We are happy to present these energizing and new designs in either silk or wool. While most of the contemporary rugs shown here are completely wool, the Damas rug has a silk floral design over a wool background.
We take special care in following current trends in both style and pallet as well as understanding how to maintain a balance between the traditional craftsmanship and the contemporary design. In addition to our contemporary line, we offer individually made custom rugs to meet your specific design requirements. We have extensive experience working with interior designers, and have had bespoke rugs made for both domestic and hospitality spaces.
Nakkas’ Contemporary Collection takes a traditional craft and brings it into the present in a variety of ways. Some of our contemporary rugs, such as Harput or Ilgaz, are more abstract with subtle changes in color or shapes. Others, such as the Palu, are bolder and geometric, with bright colors juxtaposed with softer tones, while keeping a linear format. The Asur line takes a typically oriental figure and repeats it across the rug, creating a field of pattern. While the figure itself is traditional, the repetition and layout creates a more modern piece.
Our Perge, Harem and Kotan rugs offer a similar design, with different figures, used in different ways. The singular Gabe presents a slightly different take on a contemporary Turkish rug.
