Description | This Balıkesir kilim reinterprets the simple yet meaningful flat-weave tradition of the region's Yörük nomads in a contemporary language. The design is centered on a natural, off-white ground (often the undyed color of sheep's wool), which is traversed by fine, wavy lines in brown/smoke tones, resembling water channels (su yolu) or wind tracks. These fluid lines symbolize the region's relationship with its land and water, as well as the nomadic ideas of continuity and the journey. The small, scattered dotted accents can be read as stylized "eyes" or "hooks," intended to offer protection against the evil eye and external influences. The natural color palette—undyed cream tones with brown-gray nuances—gives the kilim a minimalist aesthetic and a timeless serenity. It is a beautiful Anatolian interpretation that harmonizes perfectly with modern spaces. |
