Description

A rare and elegant work of art, this Bandirma rug was woven in the Bandirma district of Balıkesir, a town that gained fame for its fine weavings in the first half of the 20th century. While often inspired by the aesthetic of Hereke carpets, Bandirma rugs developed their own unique characteristics over time.

This piece is a classic example of a Bandirma prayer rug (Namazlık or Saff). The mihrab arch at the top symbolizes the directional focus during prayer, while the simple, unadorned field at the center represents tranquility and spiritual peace. Delicate floral motifs flanking the mihrab and elegant vegetal patterns in the corners further emphasize the rug's spiritual character.

Woven in a palette of soft pastel red, light gold, and cream tones, this rug has a gentle yet profound appearance. Hand-knotted using the Turkish double-knot technique with high-quality wool, it is a testament to meticulous craftsmanship and timeless design.
