Description | This kilim is a traditional Anatolian flatweave made with the Cicim (Jijim) technique. Cicim is a type of brocading or embroidery where supplementary colored threads are wrapped around the warp threads on top of the plain-woven ground, creating a textured, raised pattern that is rich both technically and visually. Diamond-shaped (baklava) forms are spread regularly across the entire surface, symbolizing themes of fertility, protection, and continuity. The tiny nested hooks and hooked elements within them are meant to provide protection from the evil eye and outside influences. The dominant color palette of red, pink, beige, and brown tones emphasizes warmth, life energy, and the bond with the earth. The Cicim technique creates a durable ground fabric while the decorative overlay gives it an almost three-dimensional feel. This versatile weaving style was often used for bags (heybe), pillows, and prayer mats. |
