Description

Konya kilims are born from the deep-rooted weaving traditions of the Central Anatolian steppe. More than just a floor covering, a Konya kilim is a non-verbal narrative—a symbolic means of communication carrying traces of the weaver's life. Woven by nomadic and semi-nomadic Turkmen communities, these kilims express themes of marriage, fertility, protection, and abundance through their powerful designs.

This kilim is divided into two horizontal sections, each centered with a large diamond (baklava) motif. This powerful shape represents the center of life, inner balance, and protective strength. The nested layers and zigzag edges of the diamond are associated with movement, the cycle of life, and resilience.

Surrounding the central medallions are classic Anatolian symbols: the ram's horn (power), the hands-on-hips (femininity and fertility), and stylized flowers (life). These figures were woven not only for their beauty but as protective, talismanic charms. The geometric border acts as a symbolic circle of protection, separating the inner sanctuary from the outside world while adding visual rhythm to the composition.
