Description | This traditional hand-woven kilim is a genuine piece from the Konya region. For centuries, Konya kilims have been woven by nomadic and semi-nomadic Yörük communities, serving as both functional floor coverings and powerful symbolic expressions. With the belief that "a home without a kilim is a home without a wedding," they were often created as part of a bride's dowry, embedded with protective and familial wishes. The central arrangement of hexagonal and diamond forms represents themes of the tree of life, order, and finding one's center. The small floral or star motifs within each form symbolize abundance, fertility, and harmony within the home. The border is adorned with a host of potent Anatolian symbols, including the ram's horn (masculine power), hands-on-hips (feminine energy), the hook (protection), and the scorpion (defense). These designs are a testament to the weaver's hopes and intentions, symbolizing the desire for protection, family unity, and strength. |
