Description

This Sarkoy kilim is a rare example of traditional Turkish weaving from the Thrace region. These kilims are distinguished by their vibrant color palette, geometric patterns, and compositions that are both simple and impactful.

The central diamond (baklava) motifs symbolize protection from the evil eye and life energy. The smaller nested diamonds and dots represent family bonds, unity, and abundance. The X-like motifs in the border are related to powerful Anatolian symbols: the ram's horn (strength and fertility), the hands-on-hips (femininity and procreation), and the scorpion/cross (a protective shield against harm). These motifs provide not only aesthetic beauty but also a deep layer of meaning and protective power.
