Description

Woven for centuries in the village of Taşpınar (Aksaray), Taşpınar kilims hold a significant place in the Anatolian kilim tradition. These hand-woven works of art are typically made with wool yarn and colored with natural vegetable dyes, featuring a prominent palette of rich red, deep navy, cream, and brown tones.

The large, diamond-shaped geometric medallions at the center symbolize not only protection but also abundance, fertility, and strong family bonds. Scattered among them, smaller star, eye, and hook motifs represent protection from the evil eye, spiritual balance, and life force.

The repeating motifs in the surrounding borders show that these weavings are a form of storytelling. As women wove these kilims, they translated the seasons of their geography, their social situations, and their hopes and prayers into a symbolic, woven language.
